Meet Azrael Darkthorne, the antagonist in my comic/manga series “Highborne Fates.” Once a devoted bender and follower of the Dawncast Clan, Azrael was exiled for a decade from the kingdom of Varga after uncovering the King’s secrets to fellow Clan Leaders during a council meeting.
He wandered the world until fate had led him into the heart of the Infinite Forest, a place none are known to escape once fully in. It was there he encountered Darkthorne, a sentient force of dark energy. When savages closed in, Darkthorne saved Azrael, forging a bond between them. Together, they fought to escape the forest’s endless maze until they finally reached the coast, their supposed way out, back into civilization. But the truth shattered everything. Darkthorne was never just a guardian. They were waiting for someone to assist them, free them, and use to flee the forest, which was designed as a prison for them. In a single moment, the entity revealed its true nature and overpowered Azrael, absorbing him completely. With his body as a vessel, Darkthorne was reborn as Azrael Darkthorne, a being of pure darkness, wielding unimaginable power.
Darkthorne, being reborn and living within Azrael’s body, can mimic and amplify any technique of other highbornes and hit them back with the same move, just stronger and harder.
He uses the shadows cast upon the world actively draining it whenever he or it touches him. This makes him a powerful enemy that can’t be stopped. After freeing himself, he wandered the world for the remainder of Azrael’s exile, exploring and seeing different parts of the new civilization. However, his anger always led to one person. To the one who trapped him to rot in the forest, the man the world calls King Atlan.
